This will be my first post sharing more of the work I do, going more in depth than possible on Instagram. If you’re reading this, thanks for being here! This documentation is mostly intended to just be a journal for myself and my growth as a photographer, but if you happen to find it interesting, that’s great! Each post will be a behind the scenes look at what goes into photographing architecture, with some notes on the post processing involved in each shoot.
The architect, Sean Fisher, commissioned me to capture the front exterior elevation, new home office, new skylight, kitchen renovations that made it more open, new bedroom featuring a vaulted ceiling, new jack and jill bathroom, and new master bathroom of this home in the Audubon neighborhood of New Orleans. Read more about this project in Sean’s words here.
Front exterior before the rain
After I photographed the exterior, it started pouring outside and was raining for the rest of the shoot, but was happy that you can’t tell in the photos (the beauty of slow shutter speeds!) The sunnier exterior images at the end are from a reshoot to capture more of the addition designed by Sean.
New home office (unstyled)
Skylight from the first floor, looking straight up.
Skylight from the second floor. I photoshopped in the blue sky, as it was just solid grey in real life.
The new upstairs bedroom with a focus on the vaulted ceiling.
Jack and jill bathroom. I love brass fixtures! And this wallpaper.
The lighting here was tricky. There was no window in the master bathroom, except for some natural light coming through the door from the bedroom (where I shot from). My only option really was to experiment with the artificial light available coming from the fixtures, and blend different exposures. This is the result! Also, I photoshopped my tripod out of the mirror that I shot directly in front of.
An additional shot of the master bathroom, with a focus on the tub and shower.
Looking in at the kitchen
In the kitchen, facing out. It was pouring outside during this shot, and so, so dark inside. See below for a more accurate depiction of how the lighting actually was. I photoshopped the sink nearest to camera to remove the dish rack, and removed the air vent in the ceiling for a cleaner look.
A before shot, not yet blended with other exposures.
Alternate exterior images on a sunnier day.
